What would you say to your Dad today if you could?
For sixteen years I have been asking this question on Father's Day at Fark.com.
I am always stunned at the heartbreaking, heartwarming somehow cathartic comments. It, for me, somehow makes my Dad's tragic story into a positive. These threads have become very special to me.
Read through the comments and perhaps be moved to share your own.
This year, as a Dad, I would once again tell him that I couldn't be more proud of his Grandkids and now adult Great Grandkids. I am, as he would be, so happy they are living the lives they are. I'd say again how thankful I am for that first real guitar and how it transformed me and how that experience influenced every aspect of my life. In spite of him or because of him? I don't really know.
One father to another I offer this advice:
show up, be silly, be strong, listen, be honest.
