I Spent Three Days In Bakersfield One Night

Well here is an oldie but a goodie. I was a beta tester for CorelDRAW. They had all these cool contests with great prizes. We got this gig to do a graphic for the Optimist club. One they could hang little sticky hot air ballons to show each clubs growth over the last year. In drawing this VECTOR image. I wrote the words cloud in the sky, mountain in the back, ground cover on the ground, tree, tree, tree, lake, reflection, etc blocking out the drawing, literally, with words. Then using coreldraw tools I converted the text to objects did some fancy stuff and BAM cool image including a stockimage eagle.
The Optimists loved it and the lil balloons and we got treated to a a visit to bakersfied, ca and the banquet where they unvailed the thing. Big table with, I dunno, 11 of these printed large setup in a zigzag on top. All the balloons in place from last year, ready to get their new ones added. Treated like "art gurus," as they said, we were introduced and they blew air up our skirt all night at every opportunity and I never paid for a drink. To this day I still say I spent 3 days in Bakersfield one night.I also submitted a video of a really old and slow computer drawing this to the screen sort of in slowmo to CorelDraw. They said there was no category for that since they "didn't do video." That video was a thing of beauty as it drew this drawing back to front. Turning the word shapes into design elements and making it look like a cloud or whatever. It hung in the house we just moved out of, where it fell off the wall once breaking the glass and poking the hole. I need to repair it. This was the matchprint proof from the file used to create the big graphics. It took over 7 hours to print.  I love it and all the stories so much that when we moved I took it off the wall cobwebs and all and stuck it in a box. I found that box yesterday. I went on to submit a half a dozen other drawing videos to corel some of which actually got used in client videos, with no result. I think I won one image contest and a tshirt. I hung in there for Corel 6 and 7. Some of my feedback changed Corel forever. They dissed me... I never looked back. lol
Beta testing was a lot of fun. We did Pagemaker, photoshop, picture publisher, design graphics, some 3d ad stuff and whatnot. so much fun. I have windows1.0 disks that load and launch adobe products for single use from BEFORE windows was a thing.
