For five years in a row now I have posted a Father's Day thread on FARK.com asking simply, "What would you say to your Dad today if you could?"
It has been so cathartic for many and refreshing and heartbreaking to read the comments. People. They are amazing and wonderful and ridiculous and stupid and bright and are supportive or trolls. It truly takes all kinds.
People came to the threads and posted things they had been holding in for years.
Thousands of views later and I have a stack of email and the comments in those threads to help me understand that this is still a good idea. People need to say some stuff and just let it go. Just get it off your chest. A weight lifted.
So here we go again. Not only am I posting the thread and asking the question but at some point today I'll find a spot and take a moment and tell my Dad that I forgive him and I love him and this year I've gotten to the point where I miss him. I wish he could see his great grandkids and I wish the he could play music with me down by the lake.
