The IDEA!ography Emergency Sound Reinforcement Team

Well that was interesting. wakitu and I were sitting around the other night trying to figure out where to go eat when BobbyD calls. He is at the club with an hour to go before his show. 7 punk bands in the ballroom and the crowd was starting to gather. In the big room which is running a DJ night, something happened with the sound guy 2 hours before their show. I never got the whole story. Suffice it to say they had a show and no sound guy and parts of the system were apparently his.

Follow up:

Naturally they ask BobbyD if he can help. He says sure without even looking. He knew he had a whole other system he could bring in if he had to. Two actually; he could have put on a third show if asked to. He was only short crew. So he puts in a call to the IDEA!ography Emergency Sound Reinforcement Team and we suited up and flew over there. We took over the board at the punk show while BobbyD and the boys cobbled together a system in the big room.

One fight, two ejections including a band’s drummer, one set canceled, a microphone went over and hit a drummer but nothing got wrecked. The first band took the sound check hit but everyone else sounded pretty good until somehow an equalizer chain on the highs got unplugged during the last song of the next to last band. I blew an amp breaker trying to compensate and once we figured out what it was and plugged it back in we were back to normal. Well as normal as it could be. I had never run that system before and I feel like I could have should have been able to do a better job. Now that I know that board it will be easier to help. The house sounded pretty good most of the time even if the monitors were wacky.

Everyone seemed to take it in stride and I thought they all played really well considering how difficult it was for them to hear themselves and all the drama.

The show was Amanduh Jean Promotions’ PUNK SHOW: at the Trevi Lanes
Featuring - The Walking Toxins - Sedition - Beneath the Cellar - The Outskirts - Lost Issue - Mass Terror - Enough War and Hate

She put together a great package and though the crowd was small everyone seemed to have a good time.

When I left, the punk show was over and didn’t suck at all and things were just starting to cook with the DJ. BobbyD is a hero and may get to help out over in the big room too. He is perfect for the job. They would be nuts not to let him have it and get out of the way. We could fill that place up with great shows given half a chance to get things rolling.

Fun it was to save the day. Fun it was to see Universal Entertainment be able to put it all together on time and done right. I shouldn’t say this I guess, but those punk kids are so cute in their leather and spikes and blood. I giggle when I should be afraid I think, but they remind me of JohnnyDimples when he was young. They seem to like me and I genuinely enjoyed the show; a great bunch of talent. When I could bring their angsty angry anti war lyrics up through the mix they’d smile and jump up and down.
It was fun watching them run around the pit bumping into each other, then after the song hugging like girls. It was great to see the camaraderie, the couples with arms around each other. Young, smart, talented people all shouting out with all their mighty words that express not only how they feel about the world and their place in it but how their fans feel as well. With a really loud voice expressing opinions that matter, sharing an evening of music and dancing.

The show must go on
And so it did

wakitu took some amazing photos.
